Newcastle Transport On Demand is a public transport service in your area that makes going places without a car convenient, safe and reliable. Just book your ride and we’ll drive you where you need to go for the cost of a public transport fare.

Newcastle Transport will pick you up from a point close to your home and take you to a designated point close to your destination within the On Demand area. 

The Lake Macquarie On Demand service area covers  Charlestown, Dudley, Whitebridge, Gateshead, Redhead, Warners Bay, Mount Hutton, Windale, Tingira Heights, Eleebana, Croudace Bay, Valentine, Belmont North and Belmont areas.

From key activity centres such as Charlestown, Warners Bay, Mount Hutton and Belmont you can connect with bus routes to continue your journey beyond the On Demand area.

Transport Connect is the new way to pay for your On Demand trip

With a Transport Connect account you can earn up to $2 in Transport Connect travel credit each time you transfer between Newcastle Transport On Demand and a regular route service within 60 minutes.

From 1 April 2021, Newcastle Transport On Demand will no longer accept fare payments using Opal cards (also known as OpalPay payments). You’ll need to register for an Transport Connect account to use and pay for Newcastle Transport On Demand services.

FAQs

When does the On Demand service run?

The service operates from 9am to 6pm on weekdays, 7am to 6pm on Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sunday.

What does it cost?

A one-way trip is equivalent to Opal peak and off-peak bus fares.

How do I book an On Demand service?

It is now easier than ever to book through the Newcastle Transport On Demand app. By downloading the app you can track the bus to your designated pick up point. Follow these steps to book:

1.  Download the Newcastle Transport On Demand App from the App Store or from Android and log in with your Transport  Connect credentials.

2.  Move the pin or type in the address of your pick up location and where you want to be dropped off.

3.  Track your bus and head to the pick up location.

Can I just catch my normal bus instead?

Yes. The Newcastle Transport On Demand bus trial will operate in addition to existing bus services that currently service the area.

There are a number of regular routes that operate in the On Demand area, including routes 14, 28, 29, 41, 43 and 48. 

What are the payment options?

Newcastle Transport On Demand app accepts Transport Connect and credit card payments.

You can register for a Transport Connect account to use and pay for Newcastle Transport On Demand services.

Transport Connect is a convenient payment platform that makes it easy to pay for travel, track your trips and earn On Demand travel credit as you go, all in one account.

If you transfer between an On Demand service and Opal public transport service within 60 minutes, a Transport Connect account allows you to earn up to $2 in travel credit for every transfer.

Credit card

You can add your credit card as your payment method in the Newcastle Transport On Demand app.

Can I make multiple travel bookings?

Yes, the booking system allows you to book multiple trips at once so that you can plan ahead up to three months in advance.

Please note with any pre-booked trips, your On Demand service is not guaranteed and could arrive anytime in the 30 minute booking window.
